Web 2.0 in five minutes

Assistant Professor Michael Wesch made a video about Web 2.0. In five minutes he explaines what it is, how it works etc. Nate says about this video:

Perhaps the so-called ’social web’ isn’t about connecting people (not about helping people socialize), but about information conservation: If a person chooses to do something — no matter how small — it’s inherently interesting, precious, and valuable.

BBC on web site accessibility

BBC had broadcast a nice documentary about web site accessibility. In 7 minutes people with disabilities and web designers have a word about this topic.

Also a blind woman buys a book about web accessibility, as well as a person without disabilities. It took a shocking 20 minutes for the blind, because the web shop was not accessible. The problem could have been reduced using a simple ’skip to content’ at the top of every page.

The next generation web standards…

Some good news from the browser companies and organizations. Slowly some new standards get implemented in those nice browsers, which is a good step forward of course.

First of all, KHTML now supports every CSS selector noticed by the Selectors Test. Opera announced to do the same in their next build. So no more JavaScript, classes and ids to do simple things.

When I read Anne’s article about HTML5 forms I also noticed Opera does support some nice HTML5 elements already.

The only one who’s missing is… Firefox with it’s Gecko layout engine. I’m looking forward to the Gran Paradiso version.
