Safari for Windows! Or…

“Apple does it again!”… one of the things I thought when I heard Safari was also available for Windows from now. But after downloading and installing, I saw just this:

Unfortunately it is a bit buggy. So with a bit patience Apples latest action will be very worthwhile for everybody.

As web designers using a PC now also can test and debug their sites within Safari, the web will be a step closer to better performance.

But not only this is good for everybody, Apple itself will be the big winner. With more respect for their browser, but also OS and their media format Quicktime.

Hope to hear more soon on this nice development!

I downloaded and installed it the minute it became available, and in my excitement uninstalled Swift.

Turned out that was a mistake. The interface is very slow, pages practically never display text (Let alone display correctly!). Apple sure has to tinker a bit more with this.

oh, and Apple anti-aliasing = bad :) the light setting is acceptable and almost as good as cleartype.

I think all problems will be solved soon, also because it’s a beta version. Nonetheless a bad practice to have a bad working version by launch of Safari for Windows…
And, how could you uninstall Swift? :p

I will not blog about safari 3 for windows…

As the title says, I will not blog about Safari 3. Certainly not about the one for windows. I have it installed and all, yes it is buggy, yes it is unsafe. But as I saw two of my fellow Happy cloggers, allready blog about it, go see them.

Yes indeed it’s very buggy, can’t even perform a Google search without Safari breaking down. But on the other hand it is a great thing you can check your design in Safari running it on your PC.

Yeah, for testing it would be great (if it all works), better than buying myself a Mac.

But can you rely on just testing Safari/Win? Will it give you the same results as on a Mac? I don’t think so. So I consider it a new browser (which means more testing effort). I really hope they’ll not gain any market share on the Pc, and with their current implementation the surely won’t! ;)

You got a good point on that, Tom. It is a new browser, but I haven’t seen any comparing screenshots… would be good information to see how the might differ from each other.
But the core, is still Webkit, and that has a Windows-port in it. I haven’t hear anything about differences between the Mac and Windows ports, but that’s just me: it could differ.

3.0.2 fixes all the errors concerning “non-english systems with large amounths of fonts installed”. hehe.

At least my sites work now. Tom, webkit is webkit, so rendering should be the same.

Yeah, that works better Kilian! But, I can’t click on any hyperlink or button. Plus, the fonts render very crap.
But at last, there is a menu.
